Ricardo H. R. Castro

Assistant Professor

Prof. Castro is a Faculty Member of the Peter A. Rock Thermochemistry Laboratory and its research fields can be basically divided in three areas:

· Thermochemistry of Nanosintering:

What if  you could control the behavior of nanoparticles and nanostructures under heat treatment? This is what Professor Castro’s  research group is looking for. Using specially designed thermochemical experiments, joining with nanostructure characterization by TEM, SEM, BET, and others, we are currently designing a relationship between interface energies and the behavior under sintering or grain growth.

· Electrophoretic Deposition (EPD) using Self-Assemblies:

Considering rapid shaping of complex parts or thin films of binary nanoparticles? We focus in the study of EPD of bi component systems and evaluation of the interaction between the nanoparticles using the DLVO theory and thermodynamics.

· EPD of Carbon Nanotubes:

We exploit the famous carbon nanotubes exploring their outstanding electrical properties by forming thin films by EPD on different substrates. This enhances the surface characteristics: increasing conductivity, surface area, etc.
